One of the biggest mistakes people make in dog training is believing that progress only happens when we’re actively teaching something.

But, dogs are learning all the time.

And, if we’re paying attention…

They’re constantly offering us little moments that deserve recognising.

Maybe your dog chose to look back at you.
Maybe they disengaged from a trigger a second earlier than usual.
Maybe they settled more quickly after becoming excited.
Maybe they sniffed instead of staring.
Maybe they simply took a deep breath.

These moments can be incredibly easy to miss because we’re often looking for the “big win”.

But, behaviour change is built on hundreds of tiny decisions.

The more we notice them…
The more we reinforce them.
The more our dogs begin to repeat them.

Today’s reflection isn’t about what you asked your dog to do.

It’s about what they chose to offer you.

Think back over the last few days.

Can you spot one moment where your dog made a good decision without being asked?

Maybe it only lasted a second.
Maybe nobody else would have noticed it.

But… you did.
